Refund and dispute costs
Stripe does not return the original processing fee when you refund a payment, so a refunded payment still costs the fee it was charged. The refund line above shows how much of the monthly fee that is. A dispute adds Stripe's flat dispute fee of £20.00 per disputed payment.

Where the numbers come from
Stripe charges a percentage of the payment plus a fixed amount in your settlement currency. The percentage depends on where the card was issued: domestic, a nearby market, or international. A conversion fee is added when the charge has to be converted into the currency you settle in.
The rates in the table were read from Stripe's published pricing on 1 November 2026 for the United Kingdom, Ireland and the EU, Canada, Australia and the United States. Published pricing is a starting point, not a contract. Negotiated pricing, payment method and account history can all change what you actually pay, so the rate fields are editable.
Refunds are the part most fee calculators miss. Stripe keeps the original processing fee on a refunded payment, so refunding a sale does not refund the fee. Disputes add a separate flat fee per disputed payment, whether or not you win. The monthly figures here add those costs to the picture instead of treating a refund as free.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there a fixed fee on every payment?
Stripe prices most card payments as a percentage plus a small fixed amount. The fixed part is why a very small payment carries a much higher effective rate than a large one. The calculator shows the effective rate so you can see that difference.
Does a refund return the original Stripe fee?
No. Stripe does not return the processing fee when you refund a payment, so the fee is still a cost even though the revenue went back. The calculator counts the fee on refunded payments as part of your monthly fees and shows that slice separately.
What counts as an international card?
A card issued outside your country's card region. Stripe makes the final classification when it processes the charge, so a card you think of as local can occasionally price as international. Your dashboard shows the fee actually charged.
When does the conversion fee apply?
When the charge currency differs from the currency your account settles in and Stripe has to convert it. Turn on the conversion option to add that percentage to the total rate.
Why is the United States rate marked unconfirmed?
Stripe publishes more than one standard card rate depending on the card type and the account. We show the common published figure and mark it as something to confirm against your own dashboard rather than presenting it as certain.
Are these rates exact for my account?
Not necessarily. Account pricing, payment method and volume can all change the rate. Use the editable override to enter what your dashboard shows, then the output matches your real cost.
Fee maths is only one side of a launch
The other side is getting the product in front of people who browse directories. We run those submissions for you, and the target list is public if you want to do it yourself.
