Metricool is a Spanish-founded social media management platform combining scheduling, competitor tracking, and automated client reporting across 11 networks. Trusted by agencies and solo creators who need analytics depth without Sprout Social pricing.

Features:APIMobile App

Metricool is a social media management platform built by Juan Pablo Tejela and Laura Montells, founded in Madrid in 2015. It solves a specific problem that sits between the extremes of the market: scheduling tools like Buffer are too lightweight for agencies needing analytics, while enterprise platforms like Hootsuite and Sprout Social price out smaller teams. Metricool targets that middle ground, covering scheduling, competitor benchmarking, and automated client reporting in a single platform.

The platform supports 11 networks including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, and Bluesky. Its most used features are the visual content calendar for post scheduling, competitor analysis tracking up to 100 rivals per brand, automated PDF and PowerPoint report generation for client delivery, and SmartLinks (a built-in link-in-bio builder). An AI copywriting assistant handles caption drafts, and the platform integrates with Canva, Zapier, Make, Adobe Express, and Looker Studio. In June 2025, Metricool launched MetriLAB AI, making it one of the first social media tools to implement Anthropic's Model Context Protocol for natural-language queries against your social data.

What Metricool actually is in May 2026

Metricool is not primarily a publishing tool. The scheduling calendar is well-designed, but the product's real value proposition is analytics: specifically, the ability to track your own performance and compare it against up to 100 competitors within a single dashboard. For agencies managing multiple client accounts, the automated reporting layer is the reason most users stay. You build a report template once, connect the brand's profiles, and Metricool generates weekly or monthly PDFs you can white-label and send to clients without manually pulling numbers from each platform.

The platform's structure is brand-based: each "brand" is a workspace holding one set of social profiles, analytics data, and a scheduling calendar. The Free tier gives you one brand with 50 posts per month and 3 AI caption uses. Paid tiers stack up from there: Starter at $25/month (or $20/month billed annually) supports up to 5 brands with unlimited publishing. Advanced at $67/month (or $53/month annually) adds team collaboration, approval workflows, API access for Zapier and Make integrations, and Looker Studio connectors for custom dashboards.

A key milestone arrived on June 26, 2025, when Metricool launched MetriLAB AI, an integration built on Claude's Model Context Protocol. Advanced-tier users with a Claude Pro subscription can prompt the system in natural language to benchmark competitors, analyze cross-platform campaign performance, translate and adapt posts for different markets, and surface year-over-year growth insights without manually exporting data. CEO Juan Pablo Tejela framed it this way: "By embedding MCP into Metricool, we're making workflows faster and giving social media managers and marketers a smarter, more strategic command center for everything they do."

Where Metricool sits versus Buffer and Sprout Social

Buffer is a publishing-first tool built around simplicity. Its free tier handles 3 channels. Paid plans start at $6/month. Buffer has no competitor tracking, no automated PDF reporting, and analytics capped at basic engagement summaries. The tradeoff is real: Buffer onboards in minutes, the interface is genuinely cleaner, and for a solo creator managing 2 or 3 accounts, it covers the job. The moment you need to show a client a branded performance report, or track what a competitor is posting, Buffer runs out of runway.

Sprout Social operates at the opposite end of the spectrum. Plans start at $199 per seat per month, which means a 3-person team spends $600/month before any add-ons. Sprout includes built-in social listening across 150 million sources (per G2's Summer 2025 report), CRM contact databases, sentiment analysis, and compliance workflows for regulated industries. Metricool's most comparable plan at $267/month covers 50 brands but lacks social listening and sentiment analysis entirely. If your work involves monitoring brand reputation at scale or managing customer relationships through social channels, Metricool is not the right tool. If you need analytics and scheduling for 5-15 client accounts without spending $600+/month, Metricool makes a strong case.

Publer and Later sit closer to Metricool in price and feature depth. Later is stronger for visual-first Instagram scheduling and has a proper media library that Metricool lacks. Publer has better recycling and evergreen post features. Neither matches Metricool's competitor analytics depth.

"I love the approval and analytics feature of this software! The insights it provides for our social media progress really surpassed what we had before with Buffer." - Prerna P., Social Media Marketing Specialist, Capterra, March 2025
"The flexibility and ease of use is unmatched in a free/reasonably priced social scheduling app." - Paula G., Co-founder (Entertainment sector), Capterra, May 2025

How AI actually works inside Metricool

Metricool has two distinct AI layers. The first is the AI copywriting assistant, available on all paid plans and limited to 3 uses per month on the Free tier. This generates caption drafts based on a post topic and target platform, adjusting tone and character limits. It is a standard LLM-backed writing helper, not meaningfully different from similar features in competing tools.

The second layer is MetriLAB AI, launched June 2025, which is substantively different. By implementing Anthropic's MCP, Metricool lets the AI layer read live data from connected social accounts. Instead of exporting CSVs and uploading them to a separate AI tool, an Advanced subscriber can ask directly: "Which of my Instagram posts drove the most engagement this quarter, and what did my top competitor post in the same period?" The system pulls the answer from live Metricool data. Competitive benchmarking, campaign analysis across multiple platforms, and post translation across languages all run through natural language prompts.

The limitation worth noting: MetriLAB AI requires both a Metricool Advanced subscription ($67/month or $53/month annually) and a separately purchased Claude Pro subscription. This was not well-received by users expecting the AI feature to be bundled. The combined cost of both subscriptions adds meaningfully to a team's monthly tools budget. Broader model support, including ChatGPT, is on Metricool's roadmap for later in 2026.

The friction users keep raising

The most consistent gap across reviews is the absence of a media library. In a tool built entirely around social media workflows, users cannot store reusable images within Metricool. Every time you want to repost or repurpose an asset, you navigate to Google Drive or your local file system. One six-month reviewer at themarketingagency.ca captured the frustration plainly: "Metricool's analytics are honestly incredible, but they forgot to include a proper media library. Seriously, how?"

TikTok caption formatting is a documented bug. Line breaks and emoji formatting are stripped when a post publishes, meaning carefully formatted captions arrive on TikTok as one unbroken block of text. This has appeared in reviews from 2024 into 2026 without resolution.

The add-on cost structure surprises new subscribers. LinkedIn is not included in the Starter plan, it costs an additional $5 per connected account. X/Twitter requires a $5 per Premium account add-on on every plan, including Advanced. A small agency on the Starter plan managing 4 client brands, each needing LinkedIn and X, pays the advertised $25/month plus up to $40 or more in add-ons. Schedpilot's 2026 pricing analysis found real-world bills running 30-60% higher than the advertised starting price for teams using both platforms.

Team collaboration has a specific gap that is not documented in Metricool's help materials: workflow notifications only reach the account owner, not collaborators. Dayna L., a Social Media Coordinator reviewing on Capterra in May 2025, described it this way: "This limitation is not disclosed in any of their help docs, setup guides, or marketing pages."

Billing and cancellation issues have appeared with enough frequency to flag. Multiple Capterra reviewers, including Tim C. in November 2024, reported being charged after confirming cancellation. Customer support response times are frequently described as slow for billing-related issues.

Who Metricool is for

Metricool fits three groups well. The first is freelance social media managers handling 2-5 client accounts who need to deliver branded analytics reports. The CSV bulk upload feature, which lets you schedule 120+ posts across multiple accounts in under 15 minutes, and the automated PDF reporting make client management significantly faster than assembling reports manually from native platform dashboards.

The second group is small digital agencies on the Advanced tier who manage 6-15 brands and need team approval workflows without paying Sprout Social's per-seat pricing. Metricool's flat-rate per-brand model is more cost-efficient than per-seat pricing when team size is small relative to account count.

The third is mid-sized marketing teams at product brands who use competitor analysis as a core workflow. Tracking up to 100 competitors' posting cadence, engagement benchmarks, and content themes, across all major platforms, is a capability that does not exist at this price in the alternatives.

Skip Metricool when your workflow depends on a media library, when TikTok caption formatting needs to be precise, or when your team needs social listening with sentiment analysis. If you are managing a large enterprise brand where multiple departments share social channels, Sprout Social's CRM integration and compliance toolset serve that environment better. If you are a solo creator managing one or two accounts without client reporting needs, Buffer's lower price and cleaner interface likely serve you well enough.
