VistaCreate (formerly Crello) is a drag-and-drop design platform from Vista with 200,000+ templates and 170 million royalty-free assets. At $10/month Pro, it targets social media managers and small business owners who need branded content fast without a design background.
VistaCreate is a browser-based graphic design platform built for non-designers who need branded content: social media posts, video ads, animated stories, print flyers, and marketing materials. Originally launched in 2016 as Crello by a Ukrainian startup, the tool was acquired by VistaPrint in October 2021 as part of an $85 million deal that also included stock image platform Depositphotos. The combined buy was the centerpiece of VistaPrint's rebranding as "Vista," a $250 million push to become a full-service creative platform for small businesses. The tool relaunched as VistaCreate in early 2022 and today claims over 10 million registered users across 192 countries.
The Pro plan ($10/month on annual billing) unlocks 200,000+ templates, 170 million royalty-free assets sourced directly from Depositphotos, unlimited Brand Kits, AI-powered background removal, AI object removal, and an AI Image Generator launched in February 2025 in partnership with Bria.ai. Social media scheduling to Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest is built in. The free plan is functional: 100,000+ templates, 1 million free assets, one Brand Kit, and 10GB storage with no watermark on exports. The platform runs on web, iOS, and Android, and a VistaPrint integration lets Pro users push designs directly to physical print without reuploading files.
What VistaCreate creates in April 2026
The core output is static and animated visual content: social posts, Stories, banners, presentations, flyers, posters, email headers, and short video clips. Template categories cover every common social format with preset dimensions. The Resize tool converts a finished design to multiple aspect ratios in one step, a common workflow for social media managers pushing the same asset to Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook simultaneously.
Animation tools let you apply movement, fade, and shake effects to individual design elements or entire text layers. The platform supports MP4 video export for animated content and GIF export for looping graphics, though multiple users have flagged video download quality as inconsistent. Music is available from a built-in library, but each project is limited to one audio track: you cannot layer voiceover over background music.
The AI Image Generator, launched February 11, 2025, generates four image options per text prompt and is available in square, 4:3, 3:4, and panoramic formats. The Bria.ai partnership is central to VistaCreate's positioning here: the model is trained exclusively on licensed data, every generated image is exclusively licensed to the user, and outputs are not added to any shared library. Pro subscribers get 100 AI generations per month. Unlike raw text-to-image tools such as Freepik AI Image Generator, VistaCreate's generator is embedded inside the editor so outputs land directly on the artboard.
Brand Kit management is a standout feature: Pro users can save fonts, color palettes, and logos and apply them across any template in seconds. Unlimited Brand Kits on Pro make this practical for freelancers handling multiple clients or agencies running several brand identities. One limitation worth noting: Brand Kits are not accessible through the iOS or Android mobile apps, meaning mobile editing is stripped down to template customization without brand consistency controls.
Where VistaCreate sits versus Canva and Picsart
VistaCreate vs. Canva: The template gap is substantial. Canva's library exceeds 3.6 million templates on paid plans; VistaCreate offers 200,000+. For a specific format like Instagram posts, Canva returns roughly 500,000 results versus VistaCreate's 29,000. Canva also carries features VistaCreate lacks outright: video transitions (dissolve, color wipe, slide), a voiceover recording studio, video background removal, multiple simultaneous audio tracks, a 19-chart-type chart builder, whiteboard and spreadsheet tools, a website builder with 3,300+ templates, and 930+ third-party app integrations. Export formats tell a similar story: Canva supports SVG and PPTX; VistaCreate is limited to JPEG, PNG, PDF, GIF, and MP4.
Where VistaCreate closes the gap: it costs $5/month less on annual billing ($10 vs. $15). Its asset library is larger at 170 million+ assets (sourced from Depositphotos) versus Canva's 141 million+. Storage is unlimited on VistaCreate Pro versus Canva's 100GB cap. And VistaCreate's animation depth and direct VistaPrint integration are features Canva cannot match natively. For a solo designer or a two-person marketing team, VistaCreate's feature set is often enough. For teams over 10 people, Canva's unlimited-seat pricing model removes the hard cap VistaCreate imposes.
VistaCreate vs. Picsart: These tools solve different problems and are used by different kinds of creators, though they overlap on social content. Picsart is mobile-first and photo-editing-first: its AI tools focus on photo manipulation, including generative fill on existing images, AI photo enhance, background replacement on uploaded photos, and AI avatar generation. It has 150+ million monthly active users and its mobile app is the core product. VistaCreate is desktop-first and template-first: its AI generates images from scratch to drop into a layout, not to manipulate existing photos. Picsart starts at $5/month; VistaCreate Pro is $10/month. Many content creators use both tools in sequence: Picsart for raw image editing, VistaCreate for assembling the final branded post from a template.
"I've been using it since it was called Crello and it's a serious Canva alternative." - Jason B, Capterra, July 2025
The credit and pricing reality
The free plan is genuinely usable, not a bait tier. You get 100,000+ templates, 1 million free assets, one Brand Kit, and downloads without watermarks. The limitation is the asset library: the 170 million Depositphotos stock images, videos, and vectors are paywalled behind Pro. The free tier draws on a much smaller pool of assets, which is where most users hit the ceiling first.
Pro at $10/month annually is the only paid tier for individuals. There is no mid-tier and no enterprise pricing listed on the public site. Team collaboration is included in Pro (up to 10 members), which is unusually generous at that price point. For reference, Canva charges $15/month for Pro and $20/month per user for teams, making VistaCreate the lower-cost option for teams of two to ten.
The AI Image Generator runs on a monthly credit pool of 100 generations. Credits reset each month; unused credits do not carry over. Each generation produces four image options, so 100 generations is effectively 400 images to choose from per month. For users whose primary need is template-based design with occasional AI-generated images, this is adequate. For heavy generative AI workflows, the cap will be hit quickly. Tools like Freepik AI Image Generator or Canva's AI suite offer their own generation budgets that may differ.
Where VistaCreate consistently disappoints
Development pace is the loudest frustration in user communities. Multiple verified AppSumo purchasers in late 2024 and early 2025 independently reported no meaningful feature additions for twelve months or more. One reviewer wrote in January 2025 that bugs reported repeatedly had the same unresolved status as when originally flagged. The AI Image Generator launch in February 2025 partially addressed this perception, but user skepticism remains high among long-term subscribers.
"No updates since a year ago at the least. Same bugs all over the place." - CelestialTom, AppSumo, January 2025
Video quality is inconsistently reported but credibly flagged. One verified AppSumo buyer (December 2024) described video download quality as "rendering them unusable" and GIF output as "painfully eye-straining." The official response from the VistaCreate team on December 19, 2024 acknowledged the issues and confirmed the team was "actively addressing" bugs and download resolution improvements. Whether those fixes have fully shipped as of April 2026 is unclear, but the underlying complaint is in the public record.
Mobile app coverage is incomplete. Brand Kits and team account access are not available on iOS or Android. Multiple reviewers note that quick edits on mobile become a completely different, stripped-down experience. Users who depend on making fast changes from their phones encounter a product that does not match desktop expectations. This is a meaningful gap compared to Picsart, whose mobile app is the primary design surface.
Template freshness is a secondary concern. Some older inventory looks dated by 2025 standards, and some templates are reported to fail to load entirely. The search function inside the asset library has also been flagged for not surfacing all available results, which creates a frustrating experience when a user knows large volumes of assets exist but cannot find specific ones.
The single audio track limitation catches video content creators off guard. You cannot layer a voiceover over background music in a single project, which limits the completeness of video ads produced inside the tool. Teams that need this capability have to bring in a second application.
Who VistaCreate is built for
VistaCreate is a strong fit for solo content creators, social media managers at small businesses, and freelancers handling branded content for clients. The $10/month Pro tier delivers a library that would cost multiples of that if licensed separately from Depositphotos. Brand Kit management for multiple clients, direct-to-print via VistaPrint, and social scheduling built in make it a functional end-to-end workflow for this segment. Users who built workflows around Crello before the 2022 rebrand will find the tool familiar and broadly equivalent.
It is a credible price-sensitive alternative to Canva for users whose needs fit within its feature set: primarily static and light-animation design, up to 10 team members, and no need for video transitions, voiceover, or SVG export. For those users, paying $5/month less while getting more asset volume and unlimited storage is a rational trade.
Skip VistaCreate if your team exceeds 10 people, if you do serious video production inside your design tool, if you need Adobe-quality vector export for print, or if you rely on third-party integrations beyond the core social scheduling channels. Large marketing teams will hit the collaboration ceiling. Video-first creators will hit the quality and audio constraints. Print designers and Creative Cloud users will miss SVG, PPTX, and vector editing. For those workflows, look at Canva for ecosystem breadth, Looka or Wix Logo Maker for brand identity work from scratch, or Picsart if mobile photo editing is the primary use case.
